TALKING ABOUT EUROPE – BUILDING BRIDGES
Prominent writers, journalists, politicians, scientists, representatives of religious communities and young people from the entire Europe will gather in Novi Sad, from 3 to 6 June 2019 at the literary conference “Talking about Europe – Building Bridges”.
This is a traditional gathering organized by Konrad Adenauer Foundation every second year at different European cities, but this is the first time the event is held outside the European Union, in Novi Sad, the city which holds the title of the European Youth Capital 2019 and which will be European Capital of Culture in 2021. The partners of Konrad Adenauer Foundation on this project are The Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, The City of Novi Sad, Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture Foundation and European Youth Capital.
At the opening of the gathering, long-term president of Bundestag and the president of Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Norbert Lammert, PhD will talk about “European Perspective at the Times of Populism: Between Identity and Integration”.
The conference will include the discussions and lectures of today’s Europe from different angles, political aspects and European choices; culture of memory at our continent; cultural heritage; religious in the region and religious education; but also Ivo Andrić, Novalis and Thomas Mann. Reading of poetry will be organised, and a theatre project will be presented.
The participants are professors of world-renowned universities, representatives of political, religious and cultural life of Germany and the region.
These gatherings encourage the overcoming of obstacles towards authentic, lived European identity. They are the reminder that when talking about the European Union, Europe and Serbia in the EU, we do not think only think about problems and benefits, but also culture, literature, cultural heritage, education, coexistence of different religious and ability to, looking back at the past, change and choose mutual tomorrow.
