On Tuesday, 15 May, we will hang out with the volunteers from Centar “Srce”, Milica Bogdanović and Jelena Đaković who will hold the workshop – “Truths and Misconceptions of Young People about Suicide”.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO TALK ABOUT THIS TOPIC?: Suicide is a large problem of humanity and a global phenomenon present at the world level. In the second half of the 20th century, the number of people who were taking their own lives was increasing from year to year. For the last 45 years, it has increased for 60%. In the 21st century, the trend of mild decrease of number of suicides is recorded.
The indicator of the number of executed suicides at a certain territory is called suicide rate and it is a number of executed suicides per 100,000 inhabitants. Every 19 hours, a person takes his or her life in Vojvodina. Our country is almost at the top of the list when it comes to the suicide rate in Europe.
This social problem hits all age groups, however, what is worrying is that it is growing among young people, i.e. the second cause of death among people aged 15 to 30 is suicide.
The purpose of the workshop is to inform and educate young people about suicide as a social and health problem, as well as the development of skills for the recognition of factors which indicate the risk of suicide. The workshop includes the topics:
Facts and misconceptions
Current situation here and in the world
Intentions and feelings of suicidal people

Risk factors and risk groups
Who to contact for help
