Exhibition “Parallel Biographies Serbia/Germany: Identity and Work”
The project of the international team of scientific researchers, artists and students from Berlin and Novi Sad was presented at The Museum of the City of Novi Sad at the exhibition “Parallel Biographies Serbia/Germany: Identity and Work”. The project team consists of Claudia Müller, PhD from Institute for Language and Communication of Technical University of Berlin, Ivana Pajić, PhD from the Department for German Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Novi Sad, Paul Gruber, MA from the Department for German Studies of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Novi Sad (since 2018, at the Institute for Language, Literature and Media of the European University of Flensburg) and Sandra Ratković, MA, artist from Berlin, the author of the photographs presented at the exhibition. Numerous students from Novi Sad and Berlin actively participated in the realization of the project: Milica Davidović, Anđela Jovanović, Milica Lalić, Ana Milešević, Maja Najdanović, Larisa Belina, Marija Berenike, Jonas Ibel, Liza Kliš, Feliks Mišen, and the material support was provided by the organizations MitOst and Association of Friends of the Technical University of Berlin. The curator of the exhibition is Jelena Banjac, PhD.
Within the research, the team analysed the impacts of daily activities of an individual, such as the execution of certain work, formation of its identity. The people of the same or similar occupation were photographed in Berlin and Novi Sad, and their parallel biographies and portraits were presented at the exhibition at the Museum and at the website of the project. As a manifest about the topics interesting to young people and which they are ready to explore, the project, among other, contributed to the identification and overcoming of certain stereotypes, generalization and prejudice in the international understanding of Serbian and German society.
In Novi Sad, European Youth Capital 2019, we are for the first time presenting the results of the work of the international scientific artistic team which sets important questions and seeks for answers. After the presentation at The Museum of the City of Novi Sad, the exhibition will be set in Berlin (Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften, June 2019) and then in other cities of Europe: Budapest (MitOst Festival, October 2019), Belgrade (Goethe Institute, March 2020). By the presentation of the successful international and intercultural cooperation on the project Parallel Biographies Serbia/Germany: Identity and Work”, the Museum contributes to the establishment of dialogue between cultures, opening of Serbian society to Europe, development of communication of young people, the author and audience.
